Artists from this Saturday's While_you_were_sleeping gig will be talking and playing tracks on The Session with Pete & Andy at 9pm tonight on Radio Active. Pang will be there, along with Panoramica and possibly others.

Update: in the end, it was Anaesthesia Associates who appeared.

Fabrication (11.7MB mp3, 12'27") is the latest Pang track. It's still finding its shape, so this is an exploration of the textures and rhythms in the piece rather than a final structured composition. Drones evolve into melodies, glitches into rhythms, harmonies into basslines. And then the beat kicks in.

Noilly (5.5MB mp3, 5'50") was starting to veer close to cocktail music territory (not that there's anything wrong with that): hence the name. A slight discombobulation of the Rhodes samples, a vaguely drum & bass-ish midsection and some unpredictable feedback on the snares brought it back to life, so think of it as a musical Martini with a couple of extra twists.

The track Arranging Strangers (2.4MB mp3, 2'42") was originally composed as a potential soundtrack for the yet-to-be-released film Some Strange Arrangement by Dan Campion and Luke Badger. It has a darker, more foreboding feel than most of Pang's music, with breathless, driving sections for the chase scenes.

The first pang track, Spangled (3.6MB mp3, 3'50"), is now available for download. It was first composed in 2001, but has gradually evolved since then. The piece sounds a bit like the name, with high notes twinkling in and out of focus, over a deep and loping rhythm.
